Health and Safety
This policy statement represents the foundation stone of our Occupational Health and Safety Management System. The purpose of publishing the statement is primarily to summarise the commitment of the company's top management to all of the requirements imposed upon it by UK law and by the expectations of all of the company's stakeholders (owners, employees, customers, subcontractors, the public and others).
It is our fundamental policy to comply with, as a minimum, all applicable legal requirements, i.e. relevant Health and Safety legislation, including Acts of Parliament, UK Regulations, Approved Codes of Practice and other relevant guidance. In addition, we will comply with any other requirements to which we need to subscribe that relate to our OH&S hazards and to, for example, our customers' OH&S policy commitments, where relevant. Health and Safety are viewed as management responsibilities ranking equally with production, sales and other aspects of the business. We will continually endeavour to provide a working environment, including premises, equipment, competent people and systems of work that are, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without Significant risks to health.
The Directors and the General Manager are totally committed to the prevention of injury and ill health, and to the continual improvement in OH&S management and OH&S performance. Moffat's OH&S objectives (and the programmes aimed at achieving those objectives) will be defined and diligently reviewed to provide the framework behind that continual improvement process.
Our complete policy is embedded in the detailed procedures defined in our OH&S Manual. To ensure that the policies and procedures are fully understood and implemented, we will provide suitable and sufficient information, instruction and training for employees. It is the duty of all employees to act responsibly and to do everything they can to prevent injury to themselves and fellow workers. Employees must comply with any training which is given, and must follow the company's procedures and safe systems of work including the use of any prescribed personal protective equipment/clothing.
We accept our responsibility for the Health, Safety and Welfare of others (public, contractors and visitors) who may be affected by our business, or whose business activities on our premises may affect the risks of our employees or other relevant parties, and we will implement all necessary controls. This OH&S Policy will be brought to the attention of all employees and communicated to all others working under the control of the organisation with the intent that they are collectively made aware of their individual OH&S obligations. It will be made freely available to all interested parties and kept up to date by periodic reviews at least biennial) to take account of any new equipment, processes or changes to working practice which may affect the OH&S risks, and to ensure that it remains relevant and appropriate. The responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of this policy is delegated through the local management team, its advisors and all of the Moffat employees working in the Ashington premises. Overall responsibility however, rests with the undersigned.
