Torque Machines

Safe. Fast. Reliable. No phase of drilling operations demands these qualities more than the makeup and breakup of tubulars, drilling tools and their equipment. Harnessing the power of quick, efficient torque offers numerous benefits and helps prevent connection back-off during downhole operations, leading to increased safety and better production.

Major oil and gas companies around the world rely on Forum’s AMC line of torque equipment (bucking machines), with current installations in Africa, North and South America, Canada, Europe, the Far East, the Middle East and Russia. As the only authorized manufacturer of AMC equipment, we leverage more than two decades of experience in delivering world-class torque/bucking solutions to satisfy the most demanding project requirements.

From fully rotational torque machines and high-torque stroking options to open-top stroking/bucking units, Forum offers a one-year original equipment manufacturer (OEM) warranty for peace-of-mind operation. These hardy systems withstand virtually every environment, including extreme heat and cold, for extended and prolonged workshop use.

Forum also specializes in a full line of makeup-breakup equipment. Jar testers support the precise operation of fishing and drilling jars, as well as other downhole drilling tools. Containerized workshops offer the advantages of a full-scale operation with dramatically reduced infrastructure costs.

Our team of technical engineers has a single goal: to offer the safest, most flexible torque solutions available for the drilling industry. From installation to training, we support our equipment anywhere in the world and also service, calibrate, repair and modify non-AMC torque equipment.

Fully Rotational Torque Machines

Forum’s AMC fully rotational torque (RT) bucking machines are designed for fast, accurate makeup and breakout of premium and non-premium threaded tubular equipment. These rugged units handle torque up to 200,000 foot-pounds and run-in as low as 200 foot-pounds. These bucking machines are powered and controlled by an AMC hydraulic power unit whose design incorporates years of customer feedback and industry requirements to offer superior user ergonomics, makeup accuracy and process cycle times.

Optimized for efficiency and safety, our self-contained, free-standing torque machines feature hard-working hydraulic systems that perform at low working pressures, eliminating the need for high-pressure hoses and fittings, lowering component costs and improving safety. Fixed headstocks and traversing tailstocks are available with hinged tops to ensure that tools load safely and efficiently. Stocks also feature hydraulically controlled clamp cylinders that accommodate multiple diameter sizes with no need for jaw changes, reducing downtime and decreasing the hazards associated with manual changes.

Jar Testers & Automated Logging System

Forum’s AMC line of jar testers are rugged, self-contained units designed to test the operation of fishing jars, drilling jars and other downhole drilling tools. The horizontal main frame and attached hydraulic cylinder apply tension and compression forces in direct axial alignment with the test piece. Testers come in customer-specific lengths up to 45 feet (14 meters) and can push/pull up to 300,000 pounds. Using additional lift jacks allows your crews to safely move the jar in and out of the test bed for easy forklift access. Attaching drip trays prevents spills on the work area floor and reduces health, safety and environmental incidents.

Automated Jar Testing Logging System

An optional computerized logging system records test results for log-applied pressure, distance of ram stroke and time-to-travel stroke distance. It also provides graph reports, a multiple-repeat test function and a wired remote pendant option.
The automated jar testing logging system acquires data from a unique clamp on either side of the drilling or fishing jar.

A drawstring encoder between the two clamps relays the distance measurement, and a pressure transducer gives the force in pounds per square inch, which is then converted to pounds. When in fully automatic mode, you can configure the software to carry out a set routine of up to six up/six down tests – one after another, without operator intervention. Once the sequence is complete, the system saves the data and displays a report that verifies to the operator, verifying if each test passed or failed the jar’s given criteria.

Benefits
  • Improves efficiency.
  • Decreases footprint and enhances flexibility.
  • Improves safety and decreases replacement part costs.
  • Enhances visibility of tests.
Features
  • Pin-down tool guards with safety contact switch
  • Jar lift system (leg-mounted only)
