Cable Protection

Downhole Electrical lines/cables are both a crucial element of and an area for frequent failure. These weaknesses may stem from the natural limits of breaking strain and safe working loads, or they may be the result of poor operational factors. Trends such as highly deviated wells can also dramatically increase cable tensions versus the lower tensions found in more traditional shallow wells.

Forum offers an extensive range of industry-leading cable protection solutions to reduce cable risks and prevent expensive workovers.

  • The respected Cannon product line – cross-coupling protectors, mid-joint clamps, low-profile and umbilical protectors, etc. – applies to virtually any configuration of control lines, electric submersible pump (ESP) cables, umbilical lines or lower-encapsulated bundles in the wellbore.
  • Winterhawk cable protectors feature a modular design that provides centralization and support for ESP cables and control lines.
  • Motor Lead Extension protectors offer superior fit and protection and can be applied to numerous well types including deviated, vertical, horizontal, geothermal, offshore and subsea.

Our cable protectors are available in both standard and highly customized protection systems. You can also select from a full range of alloys that will endure the harshest downhole environments.

Cross Coupling Protectors (Cannon)

Downhole cables are especially vulnerable during installation and retrieval. Our cross-coupling protectors support virtually any configuration of control lines, electric submersible pumps, umbilical lines or encapsulated bundles in the wellbore. The protector’s channel shields cables and lines as they transition across the coupling, helping to prevent damage during installation or retrieval of completions. The compressive fit design accommodates oversize or undersize tubing per American Petroleum Institute specs and securely engages the cable or lines to the tubing.

For your most challenging well environments, Super 25 cross-coupling protectors provide the same functionality as our standard protectors with the added benefit of superior corrosion resistance. No matter which configuration you choose, installation is quick and easy with air-driven hydraulic tools.
