Purchasing Agent

Location: Alice, TX

Provides the lead responsibility for the procurement of material and/or services involving medium to high dollar purchases. The position requires continuous and close contact with Engineering, Production Control, Manufacturing and other key personnel to ensure that requirements to support the company’s operations are properly presented to and executed by the current supply base. Has authority to commit the company to purchases and contract of significant dollars amounts for high cost complex commodities.

 ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives and reviews purchase messages from MRP system, selects sources based in current Approved Supplier List, issues purchase orders, request for quotes, evaluates quotations and makes supplier selection under the supervision of the Quality Dept or Supply Chain Mgr.
  • Assures all requirements and special terms and conditions are met.
  • Provides complete and accurate status reports upon request.
  • Works with Accounts Payable to prepare supplier invoices for payment in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and makes the necessary arrangements for processing discrepant material and the replacement or rework of such material.
  • Performs liaison activities between all functional departments and suppliers relative to assigned commodities.
  • Monitor, analyze and administer daily decisions that support formal MRP system actions.
  • Responsible for Item Master and other data associated with the procurement for assigned commodities.
  • Initiate corrective actions to ensure that assigned commodities are procured according to the correct delivery schedules and quality specifications.
  • Monitors and expedites domestic and some global suppliers under the supervision of the Supply Chain Mgr.
  • Work to ensure inventory accuracy and procedures.
  • Follow all Safety Rules and Policies.

 ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Work Experience:

  • One of the following:
  • Three (3) years work experience in industrial purchasing or materials management.
  • College graduate with degree in Industrial Technology or Industrial Distribution
  • C.P.M. or APICS certification is preferred.
