Job Purpose:
Working with direction from a Project engineer or Engineering Manager, researches, plans, and designs products and systems on projects within the Mechanical Engineering field; directs and coordinates activities involved with fabrication, operation, test, installation and repair of applicable products and systems.
Essential functions performed in this job:
- Prepares design and / or layout drawings of major systems or components utilizing SolidWorks / PDMworks software.
- Coordinates detail design of selected systems and / or components with drafters as assigned.
- Assists shop in interpretations of drawings and clarifies the design as required.
- Assists in the detail drafting and completion of Engineering Change Orders
- Researches and analyzes data such as customer proposals and specifications to determine feasibility of design or application.
- Prepares technical data and engineering cost estimates to support proposals to customers.
- Designs and / or directs other personnel in the design of products or systems within their area of expertise including the preparation of drawings, specifications and other engineering data.
- Performs and documents necessary engineering analysis to ensure designs meet all contractual and company standards. Works with technical personnel in other disciplines to provide proper total systems interfaces.
- Develops methods and procedures for fabrication and test of products and systems including test procedures and reports. Directs and coordinates the fabrication and installation activities to ensure conformance to the engineering design and customer requirements.
- Evaluates field installations either in-house or on-site and recommends design or procedural modifications to eliminate malfunctions.
Minimum qualifications and background required to fill this position:
- Educational Background: College Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Ocean Engineering. Nondegreed applicants will be evaluated based upon work experience.
- Work Experience: Five (5) years experience in progressively more responsible Mechanical
- Engineering and Design functions. Experience with subsea equipment design, specifically ROV's and/or terrestrial drilling systems is preferred.
- Specific Skills: Competent in SolidWorks, mechanical drafting, report writing, and analytical skills.
